MAP Testing

posted May 9, 2016, 11:35 AM by Unknown user

During the 2nd or 3rd week of May, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts and Math. Your child will take the tests on a computer. The tests will be administered in short sections over the course of three days.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

Each school year, students take the tests in the fall and spring. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth.

We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all students learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.

We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer.  It is hard to believe we are already preparing for the next school year, but preparing for success never stops.  We would like for you to take a look at the supply list for art.  Mrs. Wagoner also plans to incorporate literature during her art lessons.  Please take a look at the list of books she plans to use this coming year.  We appreciate all the donations and support you give us.  Please contact Mrs. Wagoner if you have any questions about the fabulous plans she has for our students this coming year.

Summer Reading

posted May 29, 2015, 7:54 PM by Unknown user

The school year has successfully come to a close and we are already planning for next year.  Over the summer it is important to continue reading with your child.  Our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Becky Strange, has compiled a fantastic list of books that would be great for summer reading.  Students are not required to write a book report while reading, but we highly encourage you to get involved in their reading.  Ask them questions about the book, read the book aloud with them, or even make a book club with other students.  Try to get your child to think about the text and dig a little deeper.  We hope you enjoy these fantastic books and have a wonderful summer.

Happy Reading!!!
