Dear Parents,

Our young dancers have been working hard this winter!

They have made good progress on lots of concepts and skills, including:

l Stretching and strengthening

l Correct ballet placement and body posture

l Ballet feet positions (1st - 4th)

l Ballet steps *They know the French names of eight different steps, and how to do them.)

l Technique for turning called “spotting”

l Recognizing sound patterns and rhythms in music

l Dancing with counts in the music

l Splits

l Leaps

l Memorizing dance routines

l Recognizing great dance music classics such as Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker

l Basic concepts of jazz dance such as moving hips, shoulders, or head in isolation, step touch, kicks and more.

We are looking forward to our “end of school year” annual Spring Recital.

This year’s recital is at The Peace Center, Gunter Theater.  The date is June 4, 7pm until 8:30 pm.  There will be a dress rehearsal earlier that afternoon *time tba), as well as a dress rehearsal at our practice facility at After School Plus on Saturday, May 30 from 1-4 pm.  Attendance at both dress rehearsals is mandatory, so mark your calendars now.  It is very unfair to classmates who work hard and attend rehearsals for someone to show up at the recital without rehearsing, misunderstand details about entering and exiting the stage or how to orient themselves to the stage rather than the classroom and thus make the whole class look bad.  We realize that this is a busy time of year for everyone, and that there are many days when there is school, tests, graduations, family events, other recitals or sports events. Please mark your calendars now so you can make the necessary arrangements.
