Seventh grade English Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Heather Beam, invited student Tyler Bates’ father to speak during Social Studies on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Students read articles about the history and importance of Veterans Day and prepared questions to ask Sergeant Bates during English Language Arts for the Social Studies classroom visit. Sergeant Bates brought pictures, his helmet, and an inactive bullet to share with the students. He told about his tour of duty in Iraq and the sacrifice of time away from his family. Students utilized the social skills they have been learning in Mrs. Peters’ class and enjoyed the guest speaker. Ms. Wagoner and Ms. Brewster incorporated Social Studies lessons into the Veterans Day activities. |
